How To Stay Motivated

Let’s talk about motivation, shall we?

In my last post, My 2018 Goals, I had mentioned that I wanted to stop pressuring myself on getting two posts out per week. Which, funnily enough, worked so well that it’s been two months since then! I was was relieved once I realized there was no expectation for that many posts, and I was in charge of my own schedule. The only problem, though, was that once I fell out of the groove of posting every week, it’s taken me this long to even think about writing another.

And now that it is March, and some people may have lost some steam on their own new years resolutions, here are some tips that might help you get back on track.

Set reminders for yourself

One of my goals from 2017 was to take my vitamins daily. I would be good for about a week or so, but then if I missed one day, I’d fall out of the habit, and weeks would pass by before I would take them again. I set a reminder for myself on my phone so that every morning at 11AM, I would know that it was time to take them. After a couple of weeks of doing that, I was set into the habit, and have been ever since.

Have someone else hold you accountable

I can’t remember where I first heard about this tip, but I’m convinced that it works. If you tell a friend, a coworker, or your significant other about the goals you want to achieve, you will want to have an update for them every time they ask about how it’s going.

Don’t set your expectations too high

I believe this is where I need the most improvement. As a society, I feel like everyone is given the expectation that we must do everything all at once and be good at it. When, in fact, that is impossible. If you set reasonable expectations for yourself, not only will you be pleased once you hit every milestone, but it will motivate you to keep going.
